The thing I like about this book is that it makes so much sense. It’s a bit like one of those ink drawings that after you look at it for a while you begin to see a face in it. It was there all the time but it just took a while to see it. And once you see it you can’t easily lose it again. Well that is just the same with Praying With The Grain by Dr Pablo Martinez. It makes so much sense. For example he talks about the Sensation type of character. These are people who register perception easily. They constantly pick up on feelings and so find prayer easy in a group. They find things in nature spark off their prayers easily. However, formal prayer is difficult for them and they find difficulty going deeper in their prayer because they also find disciplined Bible Study difficult. They like the present, they like detail, they make good group intercessors but find it really difficult to pray on their own. They are easily distracted and find it difficult to concentrate. Martha and Peter are good examples. This is only just touching the surface because the book goes into quite a bit of practical detail about each type of character and how it would affect their prayer life.
Hence Go With The Grain. It make sense that we all react differently to prayer and will respond more positively to different situations. I’m glad we are not all the same. The world would be a boring place if we were. As I have said elsewhere, this is such an interesting book and so very practical.
