When I was 17 I spent 2 weeks on the Sail Training ship Malcolm Miller. Apart from climbing the masts and going out on the yard arms we also did maintenance work. One job was sanding the teak taffrail ready for varnishing. I can still hear the Bosun’s words “always sand with the grain, never against it” These words came back to me when I saw the title of a new book ‘Praying With the Grain – how your personality affects the way you pray’
I started reading it a couple of days ago and have been enormously impressed with the book and although I am only about 30 pages into it I have already made about 4 pages of notes. It’s a real eye-opener. The portion that I have read so far really draws you into the book because it seem to relevant and practical. The section that I have read so far is looking at the psychology of prayer and how different people respond differently to prayer. Dr Pablo Martinez looks at the mix between introvert and extrovert, and between Thinking, Feeling, Sensation and Intuition. It’s fascinating and I’m really looking forward to reading more. Watch this space.
